Map Creator tips & tricks: Disconnected Geometry

Dear Mappers,

Here are some good tips that will help you for coding geometry in Map Creator:

You can speed up the process of moderation of many users’ edits, by simply paying special attention while editing in several categories.

The background is that many edits, which are not done completely or even in a wrong way, cause error validations. Our moderators have to check and correct those edits one by one what slows down the whole process obviously.

One example regarding geometry edits

Just because of the reason that users don’t zoom into the map as needed, they are often not aware that they don’t connect two links in the way it should be. In a higher zoom-level it’s hard to recognize that one didn’t connect geometry as wanted (see Figure 1).

In Figure 2 the problem is visible, the small street is not connected.

If the intersection geometry is correctly edited you see that all links which are part of the intersection share the same node (rectangular symbol at the center of the intersection if you click on one of the links).

So, we kindly ask you to zoom in properly when editing with road geometry to help us getting your edits into the HERE maps faster.
